Who we are
Copenhagen Trading Company is a premier global trading house dedicated to the discovery, sourcing, and distribution of some of the world’s most coveted agricultural and natural commodities. With deep roots in the fertile tropics of South America and West Africa, we specialize in identifying rare, high-value products that reflect the richness of their origin and the traditions of the communities who cultivate them.
Our carefully curated portfolio includes a diverse range of exceptional goods — from premium-grade vanilla, saffron, and specialty coffees to fine cacao, artisanal tobacco, and medicinal botanicals. We also trade in pure essential oils and sustainably harvested exotic hardwoods, each selected for their unique characteristics and unmatched quality.
At the heart of our operation is a commitment to ethical sourcing, traceability, and long-term partnerships with local producers. By combining traditional knowledge with rigorous quality control and global logistics expertise, we ensure that every product we offer meets the highest international standards.
Our History
The roots of Copenhagen Trading Company trace back to the 1940s, when a Danish botanist and explorer, Henrik Madsen, embarked on a series of expeditions through the Amazon Basin and the Ivory Coast in search of medicinal plants and rare spices. What began as scientific curiosity soon evolved into a lifelong fascination with the richness of tropical ecosystems and the cultures that sustained them.
By the early 1950s, Henrik had established informal trading relationships with local growers and forest communities, exchanging tools and textiles for raw botanicals, cacao, and exotic hardwood samples.
In 1973, his grandson—Anders Madsen, a shipping executive based in Copenhagen—formalized the family’s legacy by founding Copenhagen Trading Company. He envisioned a global bridge between small producers in remote regions and discerning buyers around the world.
Today, Copenhagen Trading Company continues that legacy with modern expertise, sustainable practices, and a deep respect for the people and landscapes that make our work possible. Our mission remains unchanged: to deliver the world’s rarest and most valuable natural treasures—responsibly, transparently, and with purpose.
